My mother knows me too well.
For Easter this year, she gave me the perfect gift.
Yes, pink and green gingham Keds.
I’m sure there’s quite a few things you don’t know about Keds.
For instance, Keds were invented in 1916. They were the original sneaker, made with a rubber sole.
Pretty nifty, seeing that most other shoes at the time looked something like this:
Like most everything in America, Keds changed greatly over the 20th century in order to stay on the edge of fashion. However, they always managed to keep the little blue logo on the heel.
There were high-heeled Keds, called the Kedettes…
There were (and still are) Keds for men, women, and children – anyone can wear Keds! This is so couples in the 1950s could wear matching sneakers (so romantic).
Famous people love Keds.
If you grew up in the 1980s, like moi, you probably wore your Keds similar to this young lady here:
Everyone has an old beat-up pair in their closet. Just admit it.
Although, I definitely think this pair has me beat:
Where will you be wearing your Keds?
