Dear Waldorf, Mummy Stole Your Teapot Back in 1935. So Sorry.

This NY Times blog post by James Barron examines the items (and the stories behind them) returned to the Waldorf-Astoria through the hotel’s amnesty program to retrieve goods stolen from the premises throughout the ages. Top on the list of stolen objects are pieces of silverware, coffee pots, and tea pots. A restaurant and hotel thief myself (I have a “Reserved” sign my dad lifted from the Queen Mary Pub as well as a few salt and pepper shakers “borrowed” from the college dive bar Bill & Franks), I can relate to the stories told by the people returning the goods, usually pilfered in decades past by deceased family members.
